WHO THEY ARE
Newtown Junction is a shopping mall with a large outdoor terrace, located in the revived Johannesburg CBD.

GENERAL BACKGROUND
The mall is owned by Attacq Property Group, same owners as Mall of Africa.

THEIR BRIEF
The brief was to create a Fan Park for the 2018 Soccer World Cup. Once the Soccer World Cup finished, the screen would be used to run advertising for retail brands, to generate additional income as well as showcase other large sporting events which in turn will generate feet into the mall.

OBJECTIVES
The mall wanted to utilise the terrace area located in the heart of the shopping mall. The design of the screen needed to blend in with the existing features of the mall’s space. The screen needed to have audio that covered the entire terrace area, so anyone sitting in the terrace could hear the audio. The timeline to have the screen manufactured and installed was only 6 weeks – a very tight deadline.

AUDIO
DMX decided to install a TOA full range speaker with amplifier and mixer. The sound was distributed evenly throughout the terrace to create even flow of music and audio.

DIGITAL
The screen of choice for this application was a 6mm Pixel Pitch outdoor LED screen total screen size Height 3 meters x Width 6 meters. It was important to use a 16:9 aspect ratio because of the live satellite feed being 16:9, the picture fits correctly on the screen with and disfigured images. All the content scheduling is conducted by DMX using our cloud base CMS system called M-vision, we were able to schedule live sports games and advertising for the full month in advance.

WHY THE SOLUTION
We needed a solution that was bright enough to compete with the sunlight and glare that was in the terrace area, utilize the satellite feed and control the content from one location, as well as having audio around the entire square which could be controlled using our CMS system. When showing live TV feeds, the screen quality also had to be high resolution.

OUTCOMES
The result was a huge success for DMX and the customer. Newtown Junction became the go-to fan park for the duration of the Soccer World Cup and reported increased foot traffic and revenue. DMX created the perfect solution using our innovative systems and completed the entire job in time with very tight deadlines and delivered a world-class experience for our customer.
